How to buy a used excavator from Japan
Japan is one of the largest sources of well-maintained used excavators in the world. Here's how the buying process actually works on JMT, from your first search to your machine leaving port.

Start with condition, not just price
Japanese excavators are often sold with detailed hour-meter readings, service records, and condition photos. Before comparing prices, compare hours, undercarriage wear, and whether the listing includes a self-inspection report.
Ask questions before you commit
Every listing has an inquiry button. Use it to ask about attachment compatibility, recent repairs, or anything the photos don't show. JMT manages the inquiry so your contact details aren't shared with the seller until you're ready to move forward.
How payment and shipping work
Once you agree on a machine, your payment moves through a JMT-managed transaction rather than going directly to the seller. Funds are only released to the seller after the machine is handed over for export and JMT verifies the Bill of Lading issuance, so you're not paying for a machine that hasn't shipped yet.
- Verified seller — company, licence, and yard confirmed before listing
- Condition disclosed in hours, photos, and (where available) a self-inspection report
- Payment protected through a JMT-managed transaction until B/L confirmation
- Export documentation and port handling coordinated by JMT
